The CFRA Mission: Helping People, Helping the Community

Background

This Association was organized by several active members of the Carlisle Fire Department on June 19, 1985, at a meeting held at Carlisle Fire Station, 41 Lowell Road, Carlisle Massachusetts.  The purpose of this organization is as follows:

To operate exclusively for civic, charitable, and benevolent purposes within the meaning of the Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 180, in particular to facilitate and foster a harmonious relationship between firefighters employed by the Town of Carlisle, and members of the Carlisle community, to assist the Town of Carlisle and the inhabitants of said Town by providing incidental supplemental benefits to members of the Carlisle Fire Department which are not otherwise available or provided for by the Town of Carlisle, to honor firefighters of the Town of Carlisle for distinguished service in the line of duty, and also, upon their retirement, to provide a gift or severance payment in honor of their service, to limit any of the foregoing to members of the Association, to finance the same from contributions and/or dues from members and/or gifts and contributions from the public, or other fund raising activities, but only to the extent such specified purposes are consistent with the exclusive civic, charitable, and benevolent purposes for which the corporation is being organized.

Who is on the CFRA?

Any person appointed to the Carlisle Fire Department and receiving compensation for his or her services to the Town of Carlisle as a firefighter, auxiliary firefighter, and/or emergency medical technician (EMT) shall be qualified to become an active member of the Association and may be proposed for membership. Full time firefighters and/or EMTS (more than 35 hrs a week)  must be a member of the Carlisle Fire Dept. for 1 year before being eligible for membership, unless previous member of Association.

How Do We Use Donations?

We rely on donations for the majority of our annual budget.  Public donations are used to help firefighters who are injured, pay for uniforms, reimburse for education, and pay for public education events, such as open house events.  It takes approximately $10,000 each year to run our organization.  In the event of a major injury, it can be well above that.
